One of the most exciting opportunities for NovoPath is within the field of ‘Digital Pathology’. This is a term that was originally used to include the process of digitising histopathological images using advanced slide scanning techniques but now also encompasses Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based approaches for the detection, segmentation, diagnosis and analysis of digitised images.
NovoPath can also play a key role in the further development of digital pathology and AI by working with Industry and other international institutions. Some in NovoPath have recently had experience in working with companies such as Verily in the development of novel algorithms using machine learning; this experience has highlighted both the opportunities and challenges in working with large corporates.
We have also recently been approached about partnering with ‘Owkin Loop’ run from the University of Pittsburgh, arguably the leading AI pathology institution in the world. Finally, Professors Burt and Tiniakos have developed a new partnership with the University of Strasbourg who are seeking to develop 4D virtual liver biopsies.
